Fresh water is an indispensable need in human life. Adequate supply of clean water with good quality and quantity is always a challenge for countries. The demand for water in the process of socio-economic development in Vietnam is on sharp increase. Currently, our country's population has surpassed 90 million people. It is estimated that the amount of fresh water needed in 2020 was 160 billion m3. This level is almost equivalent to the water source in the dry season in the river basins of the whole country. Thus, the lack of fresh water was very obvious. Global climate change will also significantly affect people's lives and coastal ecosystems. Currently, about 70% of the population living near coastal areas are facing unpredictable threats of sea level rise and other natural disasters. Climate change and sea level rise can increase floodplains, impede drainage systems, increase the intensity of coastal erosion and salinity, making it difficult for agricultural activities and domestic water supply, etc. Research and use of solar energy in Vietnam currently focus on areas such as supplying hot water for domestic use and generating electricity. on a small scale such as drying, cooking, distilling water. The direct use of solar energy for domestic use such as distilling salt water into fresh water is an open market. The entire coastal areas and islands from the Central region to the South are the land that can use solar energy to supply domestic water in the context of climate change, depletion of surface water and groundwater. Moreover, the successful research and manufacture of a device for distilling saltwater into fresh water using solar energy with practical efficiency contributes to improving water quality and serving the minimum needs of local people. From an urgent need and great potential for solar energy, improving and scaling up the production model of saltwater to fresh water filters is a strategy in the " Science and Technology Program to serve new rural areas development in period 2011-2015". From real needs in Vietnam, many domestic and foreign investors have been cooperating in the field of desalination using wind and solar energy for agricultural production. Green Energy Group is one of the active investors in this field. Tinphat was honored to be selected as the organizer of this event.
